‎Former Minister of Information and Culture, Lai Mohammed, has maintained that no lives were lost at the Lekki toll gate in Lagos during the 2020 EndSARS protest.

‎In a interview on Arise Television’s ‘Prime Time’ programme, Mohammed argued that if people had died at the toll gate, their families would have come forward to report their disappearance by now.

‎”Nobody died during the EndSARS protest at the Lekki toll gate. People died in many places during EndSARS, but saying there was a massacre at the toll gate is fake news” Mohammed stated.

‎He also questioned the credibility of reports on the incident, saying that CNN relied on second-hand and third-hand information.

‎Mohammed used an analogy to drive home his point, saying, “If a man has a goat, and the goat does not come home one night, he will go out and look for that goat. Now, five years on today, nobody has come to tell us that my son, or my ward, went to the toll gate and didn’t come back”

‎The former minister’s comments have sparked controversy, with many Nigerians disagreeing with his narrative on the EndSARS protest.
