PDD Governors Meet In Ibadan, Reject Coalition, Open To New Members ‎ ‎

Governors under the platform of People’s Democratic party (PDP) has distanced themselves from forming coalition with any political party ahead next elections.

‎This came amid widespread speculation about potential mergers between opposition parties in Nigeria.

‎Chairman, PDP Governors’ Forum, Bala Muhammed of Bauchi State, revealed this while reading the communique issued after their meeting held in Ibadan, adding that the door of the party is open to any groups or individuals interested in joining the party in its bid to wrest power in 2027.

‎The Forum recommended Deputy National Secretary of the party to act as the party secretary pending the nomination of a substantive secretary from the South East Zone.

‎The forum further condemned the declaration of state of emergency in Rivers state, resolved to approach supreme Court for a clear verdict on the interpretation of the law on state of emergency declarations in River state.

‎They however, expressed commitment to strengthen the party and addressing national issues for the betterment of the country.

‎While raising concerns on worsening security situations in the country, as evidenced in Borno, Plateau, Katsina and Edo States, the forum called for review and reordering of priorities and strategies including adopting a bottom up template that guarantees the sub-nationals to constitute an effective line of defence against security breaches.

‎According to Governor Mohammed, the Forum resolved to hold convention in August 2025, on the 28th, 29th and 30th in the ancient city of Kano, adding that other relevant organs of the party, will hold a NEC Meeting on the 27th of May, 2025 in order to constitute a Zoning Committee that will address all issues relating to zoning of party offices.

‎Earlier at the dinner yesterday, the Host Governor, Seyi Makinde, stressed that the party remains united, resolute, mature, capable and blessed with members capable to resolve its internal conflicts.

‎Present at the meeting hosted by Oyo state Governor, Seyi Makinde, include Governor Isiaka Adeleke of Osun, Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri.

‎Others are Enugu State Governor,
‎Peter Mbah, Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, Governor Agbu Kefas of Taraba State and Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal.
