The Ọ̀yọ́ state government has assured shop owners who lost their wares to fire incidence that occurred on Tuesday night at the plastic traders section of Alẹ́ṣinlọ́yẹ́ market, Ìbàdàn, of necessary intervention and support to cushion the effect of their losses and bring back normalcy into the market.
Deputy Governor of Ọ̀yọ́ State, Barrister Bayo Lawal gave the assurance during assessment visit to the scene of the incident.
Barrister Lawal, who discribed the incident as unfortunate, ordered an immediate preliminary investigation into the incidence to enable government to take decisions in favor of the victims.
Barrister Lawal, who on behalf of victims thanked God that no life was lost to the inferno, assured that the state government would do the needful first before embarking on proper investigation on the cause of the incident.
The Deputy Governor assuured that the state government through the state emergency management agency (OYSEMA) and NEMA, would made palliatives available for them.
He therefore implored leadership of the market to quickly present their reports, taking into stock the shops and wares damaged by the inferno, for the state government to expedite measures of intervention.
The Deputy Governor, while describing Aleshinloye market as a central of commercial activities not only to the state but all over west Africa, tasked Chairman, Ibadan Southwest LCDA, Hon. Kehinde Akande to provide immediate logistics support for the affected traders.
He said “as a responsive government, we must come and empathize and also assess the level of damage caused by the inferno.
We would do the needful first before proper investigation into the cause
We met with market leaderd, we thank God that no life was lost”
However, affected traders alleged that late arrival of fire service to the site of the scene, led to increase in number of goods and articles loss to the inferno.
