Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde has canceled his annual birthday celebration, scheduled for December 25, 2024, as a mark of respect for the children who lost their lives in a tragic stampede.
Governor Makinde made this announcement while receiving condolences from the Southeast leadership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), led by former Senate President Adolphus Wabara.
The Governor described the period as a moment of sobering reflection, expressing regret that the tragic incident should have been avoided altogether.
He appreciated the condolences visit, noting that the people of the state are strengthened by the show of support.
Senator Adolphus Wabara, in his condolences message, described the incident as unfortunate, especially during the yuletide period.
He prayed for God to grant the parents of the deceased the fortitude to bear the irreparable losses.
A minute of silence was observed in honor of the departed souls by the delegates, including former governor of Ebonyi State, Senator Sam Egwu.
The Southeast Zone of the PDP had earlier announced the cancellation of the birthday celebration organized in honor of Governor Seyi Makinde in Ebonyi State on Thursday.
