The Oyo State House of Assembly has called on the executive arm of government to approve paternity leave for male workers in the public and private sectors of the state.
Member representing Oyo East State constituency, Honourable Rahman Olorunpoto, moved the motion during the plenary presided over by the deputy speaker, Honourable Mohammed Fadeyi on Thursday.
Honourable Olorunpoto in his prayer, said male workers also deserved a paternity leave in order to enable them provide emotional and practical support to their families during the postnatal period.
Commending the mover of the motion, the House unanimously agreed that the paternity leave should be for ten working days from the day of delivery or adoption.
In his remarks, the house deputy speaker, Honourable Mohammed Fadeyi asked the executive arm to set machinery in motion to introduce the paternity leave in the pacesetter state.
