The security officers at the Lékan Salami Sports Complex, Adámásingbà Ìbàdàn have apprehended a 14 year old boy named Sulaiman Abubakar for pilfering wire and cables in the main bowl of the stadium.
The Ọ̀yọ́ state Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Miss Wasilat Adégòkè disclosed this in Ibadan on Thursday after visiting the stadium for the on-the-spot assessment of the damage caused by the attempted theft.
Miss Adégòkè, urged members of staff of the State Sports Council, the Landlords of the Stadium, to be more vigilant.
The Commissioner, who stressed that maintenance of security at the stadium is the responsibility of all stakeholders, however pledged that the state government will strengthen the security network of the sports complex to guide against future occurrences.
Upon interrogations, Abubakar, a JSS 2 student of Ẹlẹ́yẹlé High School in Ìbàdàn, confessed that he gained entrance into the main bowl during training session of Shooting Star Football Club of Ìbàdàn (3sc) adding that he slept in one of the room overnight after the security officers securely locked all entrances to the main-bowl.
He further confirmed that he broke the pipes with a big stone to cut the camera cables and wires that connect the canopy light.
He also admitted that the planned was to sell the stolen items estimated to be Three hundred thousand (#300,000.00) Naira.
The Mother of the boy who lives at Sábó Area of Mọ́kọ́lá, Ìbàdàn, while invited, fainted when she saw her son being handcuffed.
It took the intervention of the stadium workers to revive her, after regaining her consciousness she stated that the boy offended her the previous night and she penalised him.
Meanwhile, officers at the Stadium Police Post has transferred the case to Mọ́kọ́lá Police Station for further actions.
Further reports from the Police Station where the boy is being detained revealed that he is expected to be arraigned in court for theft and vandalisation of government properties on Friday.
