Some concerned youths and members of All Progressives Congress in Oyo State have expressed worry over the delay in presenting party’s candidate for Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election scheduled for August 16.
The concerned members expressed their worries during a protest held on Friday at the All Progressives Party Secretariat, Oke-Ado, Ibadan.
The protesters who assembled in their numbers at the frontage of the party’s headquarters carrying placards with various inscriptions to make their grievances known.
This followed controversies that rocked APC’s primary election to present candidate for the By-election.
The primary held was marred by allegations of manipulation, violence, and open confrontation among aspirants and party leaders.
Speaking with newsmen, one of the protesters, Mr. Segun Adetula, called for the involvement of Presidency, National and state leaders of the party in present a competent candidate for the by-election.
Mr. Adetula who frowned at the failure of the party leaders to conduct free, fair and credible primary, said opposition party must not snatch the seat formerly occupied by a member of the party.
Also speaking, Olubunmi Jamal, emphasised that the process must be free from god-fatherism and imposition noting that loyalty, grassroots support of the candidate must be considered.
Recall that the federal constituency seat became vacant after the demise of Hon. Olaide Akinremi, who died at the age of 51 on 10th July, 2024 during his second term in the office on the platform of APC.
