The introduction of one-way tyre spikes at Ìdí-Àpẹ́ area of Ibadan, has been identified as a proactive measure to address the persistent problem of wrong-way driving.
The initiative is part of the state Government’s efforts to enforce traffic laws, curb reckless driving, and reduce accidents caused by one-way driving which is a major contributor to road accidents in Ọ̀yọ́ State.
Speaking with Newsmen some residents and Motorists who ply Ìdí-Àpẹ́ said that the innovation has helped reduce one way driving which usually causes accidents in the area, as they also expressed concern over its maintenance.
Some Nigerians also reacted on social media to the development.
Lolly Westfund, said; “No one is talking about the reverse, if you have any reason to reverse you Will definitely get your tyres punctured”
While Olumide Kayode oserei, suggested that; “It should be installed everywhere in Ibadan…. The rate at which people drive facing the traffic in ibadan is so alarming. They will even signal to u to give way like it’s their right to do the wrong thing….”

Reacting, Chairman, Ọ̀yọ́ State Road Traffic Management Authority (OYRTMA), Major Adesagba Adekoya RTD and Ọ̀yọ́ State Commissioner for public Works and Transport, Professor Dawud Sangodoyin, said the introduction of one-way tyre spikes is a proactive measure to address persistent problem of wrong-way driving, which has been identified as a major contributor to road accidents in the state.
The dou who hinted that the state government has identified more strategic spots where the device would be installed, also gave assurance on the maintenance of the device.
By combining this initiative with other measures, such as public awareness campaigns and stricter enforcement of traffic laws, Ọ̀yọ́ State Government is demonstrating its commitment to ensuring the safety of all road users.
