The Oyo State House of Assembly on Tuesday, April 8, 2026, formally endorsed governorship ambition of its Speaker, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, in a unanimous decision taken during plenary, with lawmakers also pledging to mobilise statewide support for his aspiration ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The endorsement was initiated during “Matter Under Adjournment” by Deputy Speaker, Honourable Muhammad Fadeyi, who represents Ona-Ara State Constituency.

Honourable Fadeyi, in his presentation, commended the Speaker’s leadership trajectory, describing him as a stabilising force within the legislature whose stewardship has strengthened legislative-executive harmony in Oyo State.

He noted that Ogundoyin’s tenure as Speaker has been defined by institutional stability, improved legislative coordination, and enhanced governance outcomes, adding that his emergence as a governorship aspirant represents continuity of effective leadership.

In their contributions, several lawmakers contributed in support of the endorsement.

The Majority Leader, Honourable Sanjo Adedoyin, described the Speaker as a leader who has demonstrated capacity beyond expectations.

“You have shown capacity and leadership. Through your efforts, you have ensured stability in governance. Your leadership is inspiring and has shown that leadership is not about age or region. You have done well here, and we are convinced you can do even better when you move higher. Oyo State needs someone from the inside, someone who understands the terrain” he said.

Other lawmakers, including Honourable Babajide Gabriel, Honourable Abiola Olalekan, Honourable Olusola Owolabi, and Honourable Gbenga Oyekola, also spoke in strong support of the motion.

They highlighted Honourable Ogundoyin’s leadership style, describing it as inclusive, strategic, and results-driven.

The lawmakers further commended what they described as his political maturity and his ability to work closely with Governor Seyi Makinde, noting that he has gained valuable governance experience through that relationship.

They unanimously agreed that the Speaker’s performance in office has demonstrated readiness for higher responsibility, with some members stating that leadership is not defined by age or geography but by capacity, experience, and proven commitment to public service.

In his response, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin, expressed appreciation to his colleagues for the confidence reposed in him, describing the endorsement as a major encouragement.

“I am more encouraged and empowered to move forward with the ambition” he said, pledging to remain focused on his duties as Speaker while continuing consultations across the state.
