The Oyo State House of Assembly has condemned alleged derogatory remarks made by Dr. Doyin Odebowale, a former Senior Special Assistant on Special Duties and Strategy to late Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu, against Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Ghandi Olaoye.

The Assembly at the plenary presided over by Speaker, Honourable Adebo Ogundoyin described the comments made on a radio program in Ibadan as factually incorrect, disrespectful and inciting.

A motion co-sponsored and presented by Leader of the House, Hon. Sanjo Onaolapo, acknowledged critical role of traditional institutions in preserving culture, heritage, and community cohesion in Oyo State.

The lawmakers observed that Dr. Odebowale’s remarks breached the Nigeria Broadcasting Code of ethics and the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC) Act, Cap N11, LFN 2004.

They, therefore urged Executive Arm of Government to take proactive steps to safeguard traditional institutions in Oyo State.

The Assembly therefore called on Oyo State Commissioner for Justice to seek legal remedy against Dr. Odebowale for making defamatory and inciting remarks against the paramount ruler.

They also urged the Ministry of Information and Orientation to move the NBC to take disciplinary action against Lagelu FM and its presenter, Temitayo Oyeladun “Aboo Oro”, for failing to uphold professional broadcasting ethics.
