To completely end Female Genital Mutilation, FGM, Oyo State government has inaugurated steering committee/technical working group for management of gender related issues.
The committees were inaugurated by the State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion at a programme on International Day of Zero Tolerance for FGM.

The steering committee comprises of Commissioners for Justice, Health, Trade and Education while technical group has representatives from NGOs.
The Head of service, Mrs. Olubunmi Oni, said Oyo State was committed to build a society where gender related issues are effectively managed.
Also speaking, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Inclusion, who doubles as the Chairperson of the Steering committee, Mrs Toyin Balogun, charged the committees to come up with an action plan within 3 months.
In their separate messages, representatives of partnering agencies and groups, expressed optimism that the effort would drastically reduce cases of FGM and Gender-based violence in the state.
Report says Nigeria ranks 3rd in the world while Oyo State ranks 5th among states and countries with highest record of FGM practices.
