Journalist Olawale Ogunbusola Awards: Schools Battle-Ready, Organiser Calls For Cooperation

In order to achieve a meaningful and memorable outing, organizers of Journalist Olawale Ogunbusola School Competition and Awards event, have called for sportsmanship spirit, co-operation and genuine supports from the participating schools and stakeholders.

The anticipated 3rd edition of Journalist Olawale Ogunbusola School Competition and Awards event will hold on Thursday, November 7, 2024, at the National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan, with over 150 attendees expected.

The annual event owned by an author, respected broadcast journalist and Prince 89.7FM’s Oyo State Governor’s office Correspondent, Olawale Ogunbusola, FEIPA, aims to evaluate young children’s cognitive development through quiz competitions in English, Mathematics, Current Affairs and General Knowledge, as well as educational lectures and awards for outstanding personalities.

Ten schools have been approved by Oyo State Government through the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology to attend 2024 edition.

The participating schools include Divine Favour International School, Celica, New Ife Road, Ibadan, Prime College, Ibadan, St. Patrick’s School, Bashorun, St. Gabriel Commercial School, Mokola and Onireke High School, Onireke, Ibadan.

Others are Bishop Onabanjo School, Ashi-Bodija, Ibadan, Mount Olivet High School, Bodija, Queen of Apostle, Oluyoro, Ibadan, Celestial High School, Oke Ado, Oluyole High School, Oluyole Extension, Ibadan, and Ratibi College, Ibadan.

The Event will be open with the quiz competition at 8 o’clock in the morning for the invited school representatives, one from JSS 3 and the other from SS 2, ranged 12 and 14 years respectively, while from 10 am the official event opens to the general public including the invited guests, mediums and sponsors.

Head of News, Solutions 93.9FM, Oladapo Okunnubi popularly known as “Young Striker”; Head of Programmes, Adamimogo FM, Olusina Olabode, otherwise knows as “Omoyashina” and Registrar, Eccolerite Institute for Peace Advancement, Dr. Omotayo Adegunju would anchor and pilot the event.

At this year’s edition, two of Governor Seyi Makinde’s aides will be featured, first, Executive Assistant on Security, CP Sunday Odukoya (RTD), who will deliver a lecture titled “Towards Improving Schools Security in Oyo State,” while Reverend Dr. Femi Ibikunle, will serve as the official chairman.

Other speakers include Professor of Urban Planning and Environmental Planning, Lead City University, Ibadan, Professor Grace Oloukoi, FNITP, who will deliver the keynote lecture “Adjustments to Climate Changes,” Assistant Chief Nursing Officer/Director, Oyiza Orphanage Home, Mrs. Taiwo Joy, who will speak on “Effects of Teenage Pregnancy in Any Society.” and CEO, Afriwomen Entreneurship Initiative, Mrs Adebukola Oso, LLM (U.K.), PGDipSP&C (Open U.K.), DipMD SAE U.K., LLB, will speak on “Building a Sustainable Future: The Role of Entrepreneurial Education in Nigerian Secondary Schools.”

Special guests include Deputy Majority Leader, Hon. Samson Olawale Babalola; Chief Whip, Hon. Gbenga Oyekola; Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Yusuf Oladeni Adebisi; Chairman, Oyo State Trade Union Congress, Comrade Bosun Olabiyi-Agoro, Egbeda Liaison Officer to Oyo Central Senator, Yunus Akande, Hon. Taoreed Akande, CEO,Prince 89.7FM, Barrister Dr. Babatunde Balogun, CEO, Young Artist ArtHub, UK-Nigeria, Mrs. Olaide Moyet-Turner; Curator, National Museum of Unity, Aleshinloye, Ibadan, Mrs. Oriyomi Pamela Otuka; CEO, Bright Lens Media Network & Iseya TV, Mrs. Ayodeni Aluko; and TVC News Camera Reporter, Mr. Adewale Ojedokun, Public Health Columnist, Miriam Ike Nwaneka.

The event which will hold from 8 am to 1 pm, will feature honourable gifts, certificates of participation presentation to the best three students from both JSS 3 and SS2, and awards presentation to nearly twenty (20) most merited personalities in the society.
